PIDS 2025 Fellowship Awards Application

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS) is now accepting applications for the 2025 cycle for two awards: the Stanley and Susan Plotkin and Sanofi Pasteur Fellowship Award (1) and the St. Jude-PIDS Fellowship Award in Basic and Translational Science (1).

This application form and all other components should be submitted online by 11:59 PM Pacific Time on April 1, 2025.

An acknowledgment of your completed application will be sent via email.

Applicant Information

Proposed Research

Please describe any current sources of research funding and the duration of commitment for that funding.

Please describe any pending sources of funding, the period for which that funding is requested, and the date that a decision is anticipated.

The Stanley and Susan Plotkin and Sanofi Pasteur Fellowship Award provides $50,000 a year for up to two years. First-year fellows may apply for up to two years, and second-year fellows are eligible to apply for a 1-year ($50,000) award.

The St. Jude-PIDS Fellowship Award is for three full years. 

Division Director or Fellowship Program Director
The statement from the applicant's division director or program director should summarize the applicant's qualification and potential for success and provide support for the applicant's choice of research mentor and research project. This statement should also document the division's commitment to preserve the appropriate amount of protected time for the fellow to conduct research during the award period (note the requirements for the two awards).

Prospective Research Mentor
The letter of support from the research mentor should include a brief description of the current projects in their research program, a list of current research personnel, a summary of the applicant's proposed research project, and documentation of the commitment to directly supervise the fellow. The mentor should also describe in detail a specific plan during fellowship to foster the applicant's career.

Grant Administrator
If you are selected to receive an award, we will need to contact your institution's grant administrator to obtain the necessary financial information for processing payment. Please provide the contact details of the person we should reach out to in this case.

Supporting Materials

The following materials must be included with your application submission:

  1. Applicant’s biosketch in current NIH format (5-page limit)
  2. Mentor’s biosketch in current NIH format (5-page limit)
  3. Personal statement from the applicant (1 page)
  4. Research proposal (5-page limit, including the statement of overall hypothesis and specific aims)
  5. References (no page limit) 
  6. Budget justification (no page limit)
  7. Letter of support from the applicant’s division director or fellowship program director 
  8. Letter of support from the prospective research mentor, which should include a detailed career development plan for the applicant
